the colorfully striped ‘huit house’ by mexican studio tactic-a is organized around an L-shaped layout. built in lagos de moreno jalisco in mexico, the building features a bold exterior façade and a series of pitched, triangular roofs. in reference to the surrounding vernacular architecture, which typically sees the north and east sides opening to the outside – the west and south façades behave in contrast, forming a playful and contemporary typology.
the angled geometry is arranged around the internal programs for the four family members, only two rooms were built, one for the parents and another for their two daughters in order to encourage interaction. the interior also consists of a large living space, a home office where the couple can work and a media room that may be used as a room for guests.

divided into three double sections, the triangular-shaped roofs are orientated towards the east, helping to bring light through to the lower part of the house. juxtaposing this, the north façade is formed by a solid wall, while the west can be fully opened out to the garden, merging the built environment with the outdoor landscape. a ladder-bridge-lamp system located in the main part of the structure acts as a filter between the activities: work, socializing and cooking.
